Kenneth J. Lensch, 81, of Marion, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, by Pastor Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from4 - 8 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. A private family burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites conducted by American Legion Post #298.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Jean (Allan) Roberts of Brooklyn, N.Y., John (Diana) Lensch, Marion, Jim (Stacey) Lensch, Marion; 7 grandchildren, Chad (Ruth) Roberts, Brian (Jenny) Lensch, Anna (Andrew) Mosier, Matthew (Allison) Roberts, Mehgan (Chad Diefenderfer) Lensch, Erin (Josh) Cullnan, and Daniel Lensch; 5 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Lauren Lensch, Ethan, Atticus, and Toby Roberts; and 2 sisters, Dorothy Halbasch and Bertha Furey.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Mary Lensch, Catherine Schirm, and Wilma Schanbacher, and 2 brothers, August Lensch and William Lensch.
Ken was born October 12, 1927, the son of Louis W. and Matilda L. (Fritz) Lensch, in Atkins, Iowa. He graduated from Ely High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army after World War II. Ken married Mary L. Kneeland on October 12, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #298, Excelsior Club, Friends Forever Card Club of over 50 years, Linn County Pork Producers, Linn County Corn and Soybean Growers Association, Linn County Farm Bureau, and was a former Marion Hawkeyes 4H leader. Ken was an avid John Deere farm toy collector and bowler. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
The family would like to thank the Mercy Hospital Plaza Dialysis staff and the staff at the Hospice House for their loving care.
Ken and Mary Lensch have lived at Keystone Cedars over the past four years. Ken was on dialysis for over six amazing years. He lived and breathed farming every single day and anyone that knew Ken knows he’ll have a farm in heaven too. “We will miss you Ken!”
