Kenneth Henry Kiburz, 89, of Marion, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 3, 2016. The family will greet friends 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the funeral home. Private family graveside service will be held.
Ken is survived by his sons, Brad Kiburz of Hiawatha and Brian (Cathi) Kiburz of Marion; ten grandchildren, Matt, Cole, Calvin, Stephen, Niki, Alec, Sam, Tim, Josh, and Patches; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Sheryl Roberts of Marion, Sylvia Kiburz of Bedford, and Georgia Holguin of Silver City, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet; his daughter, Berneé Kiburz Gonderman; his brother, Bill; and his sister, Anna Linda Ganzer and her husband Roland.
Ken was born February 7, 1927, in Monticello, the son of Frank and Thelma (Welch) Kiburz. He graduated from Monticello High School and the University of Dubuque. Ken then enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Janet Dale on October 30, 1953 in Monticello. Ken was employed at AT & T with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Marion Athletic Booster Club and the Hy-Vee Breakfast Club. Ken played football for Monticello High School, the University of Dubuque, the United States Army and completed his playing career as a member of the Chicago Bears.
A memorial fund has been established in Ken’s memory.
