Kenneth “Kenny” Eugene Bump, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospital on Sunday, April 9, 2023, seven days before his 91st birthday and 68th wedding anniversary. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at, 4949 Council Street NE, in Cedar Rapids, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until time of service. The Reverend Jon Seda officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow Mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery, in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Kenny was born on April 16, 1932, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the 3rd child of 14 to Ivan and Mary (Jandl) Bump. He joined the United States Army in February of 1952, and became a paratrooper in Korea, with the 187th Airborne regimental combat team. Kenny served in Korea for 2 1/2 years. Upon his Honorable Discharge in 1955, he married his girlfriend and best friend Delores Schuler on April 16, 1955, on his 23rd birthday. He lived a long adventurous life, which included farming, working in the packing house at Marshall Meat in Marshall, Minnesota, then as a meat salesman for 25 years with Schweigert in Detroit Lakes Minnesota & Cedar Rapids, during which he created his own company, Kenny's Distributing, supplying meat and cheese to grocery stores and restaurants in the Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas.
He enjoyed outdoor life, including pheasant hunting with two of his sons, Paul and Perry and grandson Matt. Life with his family meant everything to him. Kenny was very proud of his garden and enjoyed sharing vegetables (especially tomatoes) with friends and family. He was a very kind and generous man, you never gave him anything without getting something in return.
Kenny was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and American Legion Post 298 Marion.
He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 67 years, Delores; children, Paul Bump, Paulette “Sissy” (Marty) Klingler, Perry (Lorri) Bump, and Pernell Bump; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
