Kenneth S. Milroy, 61, of Manchester died April 2, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Manchester by Rev. Roger Henry. Family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester. Additional visitation: one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Ken was born December 3, 1949 in Manchester, the son of Wilbur and Mildred (Appleby) Milroy. Following graduation from West Delaware Schools in 1968, he served in the United States Marines Corps. during the Vietnam War. After returning from the war, he attended NIACC in Mason City. On September 2, 1972, Ken was united in marriage to Carolyn Beadles of Manchester. To this union were born three children. Ken owned and operated Ken’s Refrigeration in Manchester and later worked for Ace Refrigeration in Cedar Rapids for 26 years.
Ken was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, member and past Fire Chief of the Manchester Fire Department. Ken was a hard worker and could fix anything. Ken enjoyed his family trips, especially to Canada and loved the family dog, Micah. He had a huge garden every year and enjoyed sharing his produce with everyone. He loved to feed the birds. Ken always put his family and faith first in his life.
Ken is survived by his wife, Carolyn Milroy of Manchester; three children, Amy (Chris) Heims, Sarah (Jason) Kluesner both of Manchester and Sam (Kristin) Milroy of Traer; seven grandchildren, Isaiah Heims, Spencer Kluesner, Elijah Heims, Parker Kluesner, Aleah Heims, Lydia Heims, and Mackenzie Kluesner; siblings, Sandra (Phil) Schatzle, Wiletta (Richard) Waterhouse, Ronald (Joyce) Milroy, Kathy Milroy, Karla (Kenneth) Sharp, Donna (Jay) Smith, and Alice Kluesner; a sister-in-law, Barb (Dave) Reth; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mildred Milroy; his parental in-laws, Cy and Lavina Claus; and a brother-in-law, Loras Kluesner.
