Kenneth L. Dawson, 75, of 3050 Wilson Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, January 29, 2007, in St. David?s Hospital, Austin, Texas, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Jerry Doellinger of Concordia Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11:00 at the funeral home the day of the service. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Janie; daughter, Linda Schooley of Cedar Rapids; sons, Kevin Dawson of Cedar Rapids and Craig (Tonya) Dawson of Willow Park, Texas; step-daughter, Kristin (Byno) Atkins of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepsons, Kevin Margeson of Phoenix, Arizona, Kelly Margeson of Glendale, Arizona and Kurtis Hankemeier of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, John (Colleen), Ryne, Renee, Kenneth, and Kasey Dawson, Brad Schooley, Alyssa Lynch, and Dean Round; and two sisters, Evelyn Daves and Dora Grant, both of Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pauline; sister, Betty; and son, Stuart.
Kenneth was born July 19, 1931, in Callao, Missouri, the son of Clyde and Rosa (Kilpatrick) Dawson. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the minesweeper USS Swift during the Korean Conflict. He married Pauline Alexander on November 16, 1951, in San Francisco. She died October 5, 1993. On May 6, 1995, he married Janie Hovey in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kenneth was a service manager for Rockwell Collins Defense Communications at Rockwell International retiring in 1987 from the Anamosa facility.
