Kenneth J. Conley, 85, of 4909 Indian Creek Way, died Friday, June 17, 2005, in Bickford Cottage in Marion. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Thomas Hedtke. A luncheon will be held at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church following the service. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Friends may call today (Sunday) from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Burcham and Richard Polite of Marion; two granddaughters, Jennifer Burcham of Riverside and Laura Aamodt and husband Bjorn of Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Eric and Melissa Aamodt of Iowa City; a brother, Melvin Conley of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Wilma Caswell of North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, on October 20, 2004.

Kenneth was born the son of John and Lulu Aldrich Conley on November 27, 1919, near Hale. The family later moved to Pine River, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the island of Guam. After returning from overseas he worked at LaPlant Choate in Cedar Rapids, where he met his wife Wilma Weis. They were united in marriage on May 1, 1948. Following their marriage they farmed until moving to assisted living in July of 2004.

Kenneth raised Tamworth, then Yorkshire hogs and Red Angus cattle. He enjoyed livestock and all animals, as well as working the land. Kenneth, also, was an avid bowler. He was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, in memory of Kenneth.
