Kenneth G. Boge, 64, of Manchester, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a long illness.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester with Rev. Richard G. Gaul and Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington co-concelebrating. Friends may call from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Friends may also call after 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Kenneth was born September 20, 1939 in Dyersville, the son of Leander B. and Calista L. (Gaul) Boge. In 1957, he graduated from St. Clements High School in Bankston. Kenneth served in the National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He served with the Army for 1? years before returning to guard duty until 1966. On April 11, 1961 Kenneth was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kay? A. Ahmann at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Farley. The couple purchased their farm near Manchester in March of 1968, where they farmed for 28 years. Ken sold feed for Moorman Feed and also worked for Baumgartner Gate Factory in Manchester. When he retired from farming, Ken began selling Ozark National Life Insurance and Pioneer Mutual Funds. He also drove bus for West Delaware Schools and worked for the Wendy Pines Restaurant. Kenneth retired in 1994, due to ill health.
Ken was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was a former president and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3538. Ken and Kay enjoyed square dancing and playing cards. He loved to golf, fish, bowl, pitch horseshoes, put puzzles together and sell his garden produce at the farmers market.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Kathleen "Kay? Boge of Manchester; his mother, Calista Boge of Manchester; nine children, Susan (Rick) Meyer of Strawberry Point, Carol Boge of Dubuque, Jeff (Patti) Boge and Kathy (Loren) Waterman, both of Center Point, Tim (Dawn) Boge of Coggon, Ted (Kelly) Boge of Dyersville, Judy (Matt) Lee, Jerry (Jody) Boge and Tom (Val) Boge, all of Manchester; seventeen grandchildren; two sisters, Katie (Joe) Scherbring of Manchester and Joan (LaVern) Wilwert of Farley; and a brother, Jim (Rita) Boge of Manchester.
Ken was preceded in death by his father, Leander Boge in 1998; and a daughter, Jeanne Marie Boge in 1991.
