Kenneth B. Benson

Kenneth B. Benson, 90, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Genesis East Medical Center, in Davenport. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Rev. William Harnish. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Surviving are seven children, Bob (Julie), Ron, Don, Dianne (Larry) Brannaman and Donna, special family friend, Jean Hlavacek, all of Cedar Rapids, Larry (Judy) of Solon, Dick (Cynthia) of Luzerne; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are his siblings, Bennie, Burton, Gilbert Jr., Freda Telken, and Pearl Preuss.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Violet; two grandsons, Brett and Jeff; and two daughters-in-law, Sharon and Sarah; two half brothers; and three half sisters.
Kenneth was born May 30, 1917, in Brandon, Minnesota, to Gilbert and Minnie (Larson) Benson. He married Violet Henecke on November 5, 1938. She died in 1989. Kenneth briefly worked for Ace Cab Company, truck driving, and twenty-seven years for Kings Concrete Company, retiring in 1975. He was a lifetime member of Teamsters Local No. 238 and the Eagles Club. Kenneth enjoyed playing cards and crossword puzzles.
