Kelly Lee Scott, 53, of Central City, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, following a long illness due to cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Halvorson. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Jordan’s Grove Cemetery, Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Denise; a daughter, Janae Scott of Central City; his mother, Margaret Scott; 2 brothers, Kenver (Diane) Scott of Marion and Brian (Denise) Scott of Kimberling City, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Sharon (Jim) Johannsen of Vinton; a brother-in-law, Darwin (Evelyn) Flickinger of Garrison, Iowa; and his hunting companion, a German short-hair, Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Scott and his wife’s parents, Don and Dorothy Flickinger.

Kelly was born February 2, 1956, the son of Lyle and Margaret (Enabnit) Scott, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Denise Flickinger on September 15, 1984 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Garrison, Iowa. Kelly worked at Rockwell Collins for 28 years. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A., as well as an N.R.A. certified instructor and training counselor, a 20-year volunteer instructor for the hunter’s education training program, prompted by his strong belief in the Second Amendment Right to Bear Arms. Kelly was a volunteer for the Linn County 4-H youth programs and was also an usher and served on the church council at the King of Kings Lutheran Church.

A memorial fund has been established in Kelly’s memory.
