Kelly L. Peters, 46, of Marion, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline, Illinois.

Survivors include her husband, Jeff; two sons, Alex and Westin; her mother, Diane Normoyle Johnson (Doug Johnson); three brothers, Don (Angela) Normoyle, Tom (Mary) Normoyle, and Robert (Christine) Johnson, mother and father-in-law, Kay and Ken Peters, three brothers-in-law Greg (Denise) Peters, Todd Peters (Melida Heime), Roger (Tracy) Peters, and a sister-in-law, Debbie (Kurt) Schimmelpfenning, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; brother Anton Johnson, and grandparents.

Kelly was born July 2, 1964, the daughter of Donald and Diane (Zosky) Normoyle, in Iowa City, Iowa. She graduated from Moline High School in 1982 and from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Kelly married Jeff Peters on December 29, 1990, in Moline, Illinois. She was employed by Johnson Controls and US West. Kelly’s true passion was being a volunteer, offering her leadership abilities in a variety of ways to the community. She was active on many Junior League of Cedar Rapids committees: Membership Development, Nominating/Placement, Placement Chair, Heart and Home Walk, volunteered at the Madge Phillips Center and Children’s Celebration of the arts. She was involved with every aspect of Children’s Theater, ranging from being Playtime Poppy to giving backstage tours to elementary school groups. As a recent member of PEO, Chapter LU, she served on the Program Committee. Kelly was recognized with the Unsung Hero Volunteer award. This award focuses on the volunteer who has consistently served the district with their time and talents. Kelly has been a volunteer for Linn-Mar Community Schools for eleven years. She volunteered in multiple schools and served on the Linn-Mar Foundation Board. She has been recognized as a 100 hour volunteer for the last eleven years, four times volunteering more than 200 hours, and once providing more than 300 hours of volunteer time during a school year. Kelly served as the Wilkins volunteer coordinator for two years. She co-chaired the volunteer placement for Supernova, the vocal music department’s fundraiser. One of Kelly’s greatest joys was meeting new people and spending time with friends. Her presence will be missed. Kelly was a devoted wife and mother.
