Keith D. “Sugar” Johnson, 86, of Springville, died Saturday, October 11, 2008, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Viola United Methodist Church, Viola, Iowa, by Rev. John Keizer. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m., Monday, October 13, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. American Legion Springville Post 331 will provide military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; their children, Kevin (Teri) Johnson of Alburnett, Roxie (Don) Huber of Springville and Kurt (Lori) Johnson of Coggon; 7 grandchildren, Kristi (Josh) Caves, Katie Johnson, Korey Johnson, Jackie (Casey) Luke, Joe Huber, Audrey (Shaun) Baker, and Kyle Johnson; 7 great-grandchildren, Hunter & Savannah Caves, Taylor & Jackson Luke, Anna Huber, and Hayden & Payton Baker;
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Judy Lee.
Keith was born June 27, 1922, the son of Otis and Lula (Kolsto) Johnson, in Newhall, Iowa. He married Delores Yanda on May 25, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. Keith was a lifelong farmer, raising purebred Hampshire hogs as well as a seed dealer. He was an avid sports fan, both playing and watching sports. Keith loved and was known for going to auctions and playing cards, but the joy of his life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Keith was a WWII veteran, serving his country with the United States Army.
