MANCHESTER - Keith E. Murphy, 85, of Manchester, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday, Community Congregational Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Kurt Pasko officiating. Murdoch Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is handling arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lois R. Murphy of Delhi; his son, Steve Murphy and wife Carol of Cedar Rapids, and their sons, Justin Murphy and fiancee Brittany Ruff of Cedar Rapids, and Robert and wife Minna Rudd of North Bend, Wash.; and a daughter, Lynn and husband Daniel Martin, and their son, Ryan Martin and fiancee Kaylie Hobbs, all of Douglasville, Ga.
Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Emmitt and Cassidy Rudd.
He was born Sept. 26, 1923, and married Lois Gathmann on Jan. 5, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a P-38 pilot with the Flying Tigers.
"Murf," as he was known by his friends and family, worked many years in the Cedar Rapids area in radio, television, real estate and banking.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Comfort Manchester, Community Congregational Church in Manchester, or the Good Neighbor Home Memory Care Unit in Manchester.
A kind and soft-spoken man, Murf will forever be remembered as the "consummate gentleman."
