Kay A. Lowe, 68, of Springville, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Winslow House care Center, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at St. Isidore Church, Springville, by Father Rod Allers. The family will greet friends 4-8 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, where a vigil service begins at 6:30p.m. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery in Viola.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; children, Roxanne Sundell of Cedar Rapids, Joe (Pam) Clements of Keller, TX, Pam (Bill) Jacobs of Marion, and Bob Clements of Ames; step-children, Dennis (Susan) Lowe of Benton, MO, and Teresa Shoaff of Anamosa; sisters, Anne (Chuck) Laviolette of Pueblo, CO, Sally (John) Seeks of Marion, Charmaine Ross of Henderson, Nevada, Peggy (Joe) Smiley of Brighton, CO, and JoAnn Crawford of Sioux Falls, SD; bothers, Jerry Crawford of Texas, Tom Crawford of Colorado, and Donald Crawford of Tennessee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelsey, Kody, Ashton, Alexis, and Jordan Clements; step-grandchildren, Chris Lowe, Vanessa Price, Dee Jay, Nikki, and Heather Thompson; and her four-legged friends, Lucky, Magic, Bambi, and April.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Marge Johanningmeier; two brothers, Joseph Johanningmeier and David Crawford; and her son-in-law, Gary Sundell.
Kay was born March 20, 1941, in Dubuque, IA the daughter of Charles and Mary Kathryn (Mettel) Johanningmeier. She graduated from Springville High School with the Class of ’59. Kay married Kenneth Lowe in October of 1974, in Cedar Rapids. She worked for 26 years in the business office at Coe College. Kay was very active and was a member at St. Isidore Church, Cedar Rapids Kennel Assoc., 4RK9s Dog Training Club, Therapy Dogs International, MDSA Freestyle, Iowa City Dog Obedience Club, NADAC Agility Club, Advocate Committee at Winslow House, several card clubs, Canine Ambassadors, Children Reading to Dogs, Animal Welfare Foundation of Iowa, and Broken Bit Saddle Club.
Kay enjoyed doing things with her family, playing bridge, reading, dancing, and computer things. She was a great animal lover, and especially enjoyed training and showing her dogs, teaching dog obedience classes, and riding her horses.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established in Kay’s memory.
