Colleen Kay Forkner, 51, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, passed away Monday, November 17, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Survivors include two sisters, Kristine (Kent) Wheeler of Springville and Ellen (Ron) Etzel of Alburnett; and two brothers, Steve Forkner of Shellsburg, and Dale (Rebecca) Forkner of Marion.
Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and godchildren; and a loving friend and caregiver, Onie Gallie of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ronnie and Keith Covington.
Colleen was born the daughter of Duane and AnnaLee (Bickford) Forkner on July 26, 1952, in Creston, Iowa. She attended elementary and junior high school in Alburnett. After she graduated from Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Colleen was married and later divorced. Prior to her illness, she was a very active member of the Salvation Army.
Colleen especially loved children and children loved her. She was very proud of her nieces, nephews and godchildren. Colleen had a big heart and her special gift was giving of herself unselfishly.
Colleen was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
