Katie was born to Fannie Johnson, October 14, 1956, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She lived a life with Thomas Ray Carter, and they lived together in Chicago, Illinois, until they relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She leaves as her legacy, 4 children: Twana Johnson, Julian Johnson (Janiece), Alvin Johnson, and Dondrail Carter, 1 bonus daughter: Minna, and a multitude of Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 2 siblings: Walter Johnson (Julia) and Olive Johnson. Her family likes to remember her as being the life of the party. She lit up a room, anywhere she went.
Katie was a beloved cafeteria lunch lady until she retired. She was passionate about affecting the most positive change, and making the children smile. Many great memories could be shared about Katie, including her impeccable ability to sew and burn in the kitchen. It’s safe to say that everyone looked forward to having her cakes and sweet potato pies at Thanksgiving. Most importantly, Katie was known to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, relative or not. She never met a stranger.
Katie was preceded in death by Thomas Ray Carter (spouse), Di’Joun Johnson (grandson), and Steven Johnson (sibling).
