Kathryn “Kathy” Jean Dunlap, 61, of Hiawatha, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Center Point Road Church of Christ, near Midway, conducted by TJ Klith. Family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Dunlap of Hiawatha; mother, Marjorie Akers of Cedar Rapids; two step sons, Jeremiah Dunlap of Marble Rock, Iowa, and Joshua Dunlap of Toddville, Iowa; one granddaughter, Ryleah Dunlap; one sister, Vickie (Larry) Darrow of Nixa, Missouri; niece, Jaren (Greg) Pippitt of St. Joseph, Missouri; nephew, John (Becky) Darrow of Springfield, Missouri; her cat, Ginger; and best friends, Sandy Minger and Vickie Kriz.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Akers; and pet cat, Maxx.
Kathy was born on July 4, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of James and Marjorie (Grimm) Akers. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970, and attended the University of Northern Iowa. Kathy worked for the Girl Scouts, for Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls and at her church. She moved to Hiawatha and went to work for Duane Arnold Energy Center. She married Charlie Dunlap on May 22, 1994, in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Center Point Road Church of Christ. Kathy loved knitting, crocheting, her animals and traveling.
