Kathryn E. Clark, 96, of Tampa, FL, died, Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Tampa, following a long illness. Her husband, James C.L. Clark died July 14, 2000, in Tampa and was 86 at the time of his death. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. William Pugliese. Private family burial: Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Beatty of Studio City, California.; two sons, Joel (Carol) Clark of Barrington, Illinois, and James (Marlene) Clark of Mesa Arizona; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
They were preceded in death by their parents.
Kathryn was born December 17, 1911, the daughter of DeVere and Mary (Jordan) Newhard in Springville, Iowa. She graduated from Springville High School in 1929 and from Cornell College in 1935. On June 9, 1936, she married James C.L. Clark in Teaneck, New Jersey and moved to Mt. Vernon in 1939. Kathryn resumed teaching in 1954 in Mt. Vernon until retiring in 1977. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Vernon Chapter of the Eastern Star.
James was born July 25, 1913, in New York City to Joel C. and Fredricka (Lockwood) Clark. He graduated from Lynbrook High School in Lynbrook, New York, and attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and Drew University in Madison, N.J. and moved to Mount Vernon in 1939. He was an industrial engineer, retiring from Rockwell Collins in 1977. James was past master of Masonic Lodge No. 112 AF&AM, past worthy patron of the Eastern Star in Mount Vernon and a member of the 101 Unit of El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids.
