Kathryn Ellie (Blanchett) Baker

Kathryn Ellie (Blanchett) Baker, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to Jesus on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The family will greet friends from 12 - 3 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Private burial will be held at Anderson Cemetery in Swisher, Iowa.
Kathryn was born to Henry and Pauline (McKinney) Akers on July 5, 1944, in Itmann, West Virginia. She grew up in Wytheville, Virginia surrounded by family, and where she later worked at a furniture store. She fell in love, and married Johnie Blanchett in May of 1963, and with him had six children. During this time, they moved to Cedar Rapids. She began working for Wilson Packing House in Cedar Rapids and was a loving mother who dedicated her life to raising her children.
In later years, she once again found love, and met Fred Clinton. They had a son. She remained with Fred for more than 40 years until her death.
Kathryn loved bingo, and going to the casino, as well as spending time with her family and friends. She was a strong, loving woman with a great sense of humor.
Survivors include her children, Sam (Deb Mcgrew) Blanchett, Tim (Kim) Blanchett, Johnie (Melissa) Blanchett, Preston (Beth) Blanchett, Stephanie Blanchett, and Scott (Amber) Clinton.
Also included are 20 grandchildren: Derek (Chelsea) Rocarek, Jared and Kristy Blanchett, Kendra Blanchett, Johnie Jr, and Justin Blanchett, Brandi (Joel) Revoir, Jacob Blanchett, Liz (Nate Phillips) Blanchett, Nyah Blanchett, Preston Blanchett Jr, Zachary and Jacob Havill, Kadarrah (Aaron Burkle) Medulin, Darrianne and Andrew Medulin, and Braden, Jarron, Scott Jr, Alaynna, and Jackson Clinton.
Her memory will also live on in her sixteen great-grandchildren (and counting). They include Aiden Corley and Mason Rocarek, Madison, Allison, and Emma Blanchett, Hannah and Norah Blanchett, Hailey and Calli Gift, Mya Pierce, Jordan and Alexandra Revoir, Hayden Haberger, Jaxon and Mazin Phillips, and Za’Riah Crippen.
Kathryn is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews and might express a little dismay that we cannot list them all. Her love for you all is truly endless.
Greeting her at the gates of heaven are her parents and four brothers, Dennis, James, Edward, and Marvin. Her baby daughter, Kathy Lynn and two grandchildren, Steven and Carly are also there to greet her. She loved them all deeply and with all her heart. Heaven won’t be quite the same now that she’s reunited with her best friend and sister-in law, Kathy Akers too!
