Kathryn Alice (Newlin) Binhammer, 93, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center in Marion, Iowa, died there Monday, January 29, 2007, following a brief illness. Per Kathryn?s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Survivors include a brother, George Newlin of Merrillville, Indiana; grandchildren, Kathryn Barnes, Lisa Binhammer, Gretchen Binhammer Meek, Carl A. Binhammer II, Martin Binhammer and Claire Binhammer; great-grandchildren, Jessica Barnes, Spencer Barnes, Chelsea Barnes, Nicole Hanson, Alison Swanson, Rachel Swanson, Ashley Meek, Kathryn Binhammer, Jonathon Binhammer, Amanda Binhammer and Daniel Binhammer; great-great-grandchildren, Anabelle Stiers and Tyler Campanelli; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Lee Carl Binhammer, four brothers, Walter Newlin, Malcolm Newlin, Harry Newlin and Ralph Newlin and two sisters, Virginia Newlin and Betty Smith.
Kathryn was born the daughter of Walter I. and Alice C. (Geisler) Newlin on August 31, 1913, in Hammond, Indiana. She graduated from Hammond High School. On September 8, 1934, she was united in marriage to Carl Arthur Binhammer. He died on July 19, 1973. Kathryn was a member of Whiting Methodist Church in Whiting, Indiana and a fifty year P.E.O. member.
Kathryn loved sewing, cooking, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She had a unique way of touching people?s lives; every one who met her remembered her instantly.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathryn?s honor, may be directed to Linn Manor Care Center in Marion or St. Luke?s Hospice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
