Kathryn Marie Berge, 73, of 2315 Deborah Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at her home, following a losing battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at St. James United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Susan Detwiler. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, John; her children, Charlie (Ruth) Phillips of Colona, Illinois, John (Sheryl) Berge of Cosby, Tennesee, Bradley (Jodie) Phillips of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Vera Stein of Bettendorf, Iowa, Patty Carter, Carole (Ralph) Schmidt and Cathy (Robert) Monroe, all of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Thomas (Patricia) Cole of San Jose, California, Ralph (Norma) Cole of Phoenix, Arizona, Roy (Susie) Cole, Delbert (Sherie) Cole, Donald (Verla) Cole and Walter Cole, all of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Edith Turkington, of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren.
Kathryn was born March 30, 1932, the daughter of John and Wilhemina (Shobert) Cole, in rural Lansing, Iowa. On June 24, 1967, she married John C. Berge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kathryn worked several years as a waitress and then as a checker for MeToo Food Stores. She later worked a few years at Collins Radio until 1979, when she began to work at Two Star Detective Agency, which is owned and operated by her husband.
