Kathleen “Kathy” Wolfert, 64, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Rochester, MN, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services for Kathy will be held at Destiny Church, 3240 40th Ave NW, in Rochester at 4:00 PM on Monday, July 22, 2013. Visitation will be held prior to funeral services from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the church. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, 520 Wilson Ave SW, Cedar Rapids, IA, at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Visitation will be held at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, at the same address from 11:00 to 12:30.
Survivors include her son, Alex (Jenna) Wolfert of Coralville, Iowa; son in law, Kyle Bye of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Zachary, Alex and Jordan Bye; brothers, Don (Pat) Lynch of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jack (Joanne) Valiukas of Saint Paul, Minnesota; sisters, Mary (Barry) Carpenter of Oakdale, Minnesota and Luann Anderson of Oakdale, Minnesota; Alex’s father Roger Wolfert (Pam) of Onalaska, Wisconsin; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Meg Bye; parents, John and Edna Valiukas; birth mother, Lillian Lynch; brother, David Marcotte; and nephew Joe Carpenter.
Kathy was born November 4th, 1948, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Harding High School in Saint Paul and attended Winona State University. She graduated from Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Most recently Kathy worked as a RN Research Coordinator at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Kathy was a devoted servant of the Lord. She was deeply involved in ministry and outreach to the Native Americans. She enjoyed rock hounding, kayaking and dancing.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to a memorial fund to be established in Kathy’s memory.
