Kathleen “Kay” Walston, 83, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a brief illness.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the United Methodist Church, Manchester by Rev. Roger Henry. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.,Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home, Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before services Wednesday, at the church.
Kay was born January 26, 1925 in Dougherty, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Grace (Kahuda) Barnhart. On June 4, 1950, Kay was united in marriage to Dean L. Walston in Greene, Iowa. Kay and her husband, Dean, farmed near Manchester. In 1964, she received her BA in education and taught at West Delaware Schools for twenty-seven years.
Kay was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, The Audubon Society, the Prairie Center Grange, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association.
Kay is survived by two children, Susan Kay (John) Ziegenbusch of Ames, and Dr. Dennis Dean Walston (life partner, John Work) of Stillwater, MN; two grandchildren, Amy Renee (Larry, Jr.) Webber and Betsy Ann Ziegenbusch; two great-grandchildren, Katherine Claire and Hayden John Webber; and two sisters, Phyllis Runge of Nora Springs and Elaine Marie Neeley of South Bend, IN.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Grace Barnhart; her husband, Dean in 1997; and two sisters, Imogene Parks and Thelma Ann Barney.
Memorials may be directed to the Manchester United Methodist Children’s Library or the Activity Fund at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
