Kathleen Ann "Kay" Dunn (Whitman)
April 7, 1922 — July 2, 2009
Kathleen Ann (Kay) Dunn, 87, of Shawnee, Kansas, formerly of Springville, passed away quietly at her home on Thursday, July 2, 2009. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She was born April 27, 1922, in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Neva Whitman. The family moved to Springville, Iowa, in the early 1930’s. A 1940 graduate of Springville High School, she married her high school sweetheart Ivan (Bud) Dunn on Christmas Eve 1940. Their union was blessed with two sons, Ivan Creig Dunn (deceased 1993) and Gifford Allen Dunn.
During their 53 years of marriage, Kay and Bud lived in many locations. After residing in Iowa until 1953, the family relocated to West Lafayette, Indiana, where they remained until 1972. Several years later brought the couple to Olympia, Washington, where they enjoyed retirement until Bud’s passing in 1993.
Survivors include a son, Gifford Dunn of Atchison, Kansas; a brother, Robert Whitman of Medina, Minnesota; a granddaughter, Angela Hays of Shelburn, Indiana; six grandsons, Marcus Dunn of Springfield, Virginia, Jeffrey Dunn of Olathe, Kansas, Brian Dunn of Franktown, Colorado, Jason Dunn of Kansas City, Missouri, Todd Dunn of Parker, Colorado, and Matthew Dunn of Overland Park, Kansas; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
All who know her respected her opinions, loved her witty sense of humor, admired her values, and her intense love for her family. “Gramma Kay” will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a very special person.
