Kathleen “Kathy” L. Johannes, 51, of Earlville, Iowa, joined the Lord surrounded by loved ones, March 15, 2009, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville by Rev. Herbert Tegeler. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 18 from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 1:30 p.m., at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, Iowa. Kathy was born April 9, 1957, the daughter of Edward and Delores (Goldsmith) Nefzger. She attended St. Joseph’s School in Earlville and graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi. On August 2, 1974, Kathy was united in marriage to Roger Johannes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville.

Kathy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville, St. Joseph’s Choir, Christian Experience Weekends (CEW), played guitar with a folk group, and played piano for over 45 years. Kathy worked for Ertl’s Toys in Dyersville for 12 years, AC Neilson as a market analyst, and most recently worked for St. Joseph’s Day Care Center. Kathy was a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant for 15 years. She loved music and had a voice and heart like an angel. Camping, boating and fishing with her family, grandchildren and friends was one of her greatest pleasures. She loved to read books, to tell blonde jokes, and to make people smile. Kathy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a “fancy” grandma, a beautiful daughter, a caring sister, and a kind friend. She was a soul who captured your heart and there she will live forever.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Roger Johannes; children, J J (Kathy) Johannes of Marion, Jamie Johannes and Jennifer Johannes of Earlville; four grandchildren, Trey, Drew and Reese Johannes and Isabel Landas; her stepmother, Bernie Nefzger of Earlville; her mother-in-law, Arlene Johannes of Dubuque; siblings, JoAnn (Gary) Maiers of Rock Island, IL, Jeanne(George) Hesseling of Sugar Grove, IL, Mary Lu (Larry) Welch of Platteville, WI, and Dave Nefzger (friend Christine Mascow) of McHenry, IL; step-brothers, Pat (Allison) Goldsmith of Granger, IN, Ron (Kathleen) Goldsmith and Mike (Pam) Goldsmith both of Hiawatha, Joe (Linda) Goldsmith of Earlville, and Mark (Beth) Goldsmith of Weaverville, CA; and one step-sister, Anne (Tom) Hayes of Rosemont, MN.
