Kathleen M. Hensley, 94, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died Saturday, January 12, 2008, at the care center, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m.Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, by Father Michael Podhajsky. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Rosary will begin at 5:00 p.m. and a vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Bernard) Witting, Terrance (Judy) Hensley, both of Cedar Rapids, and Richard (Hope) Hensley of Ankeny; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Hollenbeck of Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Mary Hensley of California; and a brother-in-law, Alex O’Neal of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Kathleen, a son, Alan; two brothers, Howard and Dwayne “Mick”; and a sister, Bernice.
Kathleen was born April 4, 1913, the daughter of Howard and Kathleen (Oehler) Cruise, in Almora, Iowa. She graduated in 1931 from Marion High School. On July 23, 1931, Kathleen was united in marriage to Louis J. Hensley in Marion, Iowa. He died in 1988.
She loved bowling, cards, golf and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and serving her church. Kathleen was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church where she became the first President of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Order of Forrester’s and the St. Agnes Circle.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the employees of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center for the kind care given to Kathleen.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church in memory of Kathleen.
