Katherine L. Carnahan, 66, of Springville, died at home on Thursday, November 17, 2011, from lung and brain cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Springville by Rev. Tony Kruse. Family will greet friends from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to services at the church. The rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m., followed by a parish vigil service at 3 p.m. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville.

Survivors include her husband, Joe; three children, Alison (Michael) Frerking, Pamela (Jeffrey) Hyberger, both of Marion, and Jeffrey (Joann) Carnahan of rural Central City; eight grandchildren, Rachael, Sarah, and Seth Frerking, Ashley, Derek, and Kyle Hyberger, and Bailey Jedlicka and Mackenzie Carnahan; a sister, MaryAnn Woods of Troy Mills; brother, Dewey J. Cook of Mayer, AZ; four sisters-in-law, Donna (Ernest) Akers, Ellen (Larry) Fuller, Susan (David) Hartwell, and Nancy (Don) Brown; brother-in-law, Stephen (Marla) Carnahan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband “Butch;” brother, Ted A. Cook; and parents-in-law, Clair “Ky” and Fay Carnahan, William Taylor, and Viola Schlemme.

Kathy was born the daughter of Ted and Katherine (Kula) Cook on September 3, 1945, in Anamosa, Iowa. She grew up in Waubeek and attended country school, graduating with the Central City Class of 1963. She attended UNI, Mount Mercy, and earned an AA degree from Kirkwood. She was married to LeRoy “Butch” Taylor on August 8, 1964, at St. Joseph Church in Prairieburg. They had two daughters, Alison Marie and Pamela Sue Taylor. Butch died in 1968. On June 14, 1969, she married Joe W. Carnahan at St. Stephen Church in Central City. Jeffrey Joe Carnahan was born to the family. She and Joe lived south of Springville in Paralta, where she continued to make her home.

Kathy was a member of St. Isadore Catholic Church and felt blessed to proclaim the Word and be a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of Springville Legion Auxiliary, Paralta Embroidery Club, was an avid reader, a relaxed card player, and an abandoned dancer. She loved to dress up for Halloween and other events. Kathy was last employed by AEGON USA.

A memorial fund has been established in Kathy’s honor.
