Katherine A. Cook, 101, formerly of Springville and Hiawatha, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, where a Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Survivors include her children, Ted A. Cook of Phoenix, Arizona, Mary Ann Woods of Hiawatha, Dewey J. Cook of Mayer, Arizona, and Katherine L. and husband Joe Carnahan of Springville; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; seven nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Lois Kula and Alberta Kula.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; and four brothers, Edward, Louis, William and Adolph Kula.

Katherine was born April 23, 1905, near Prairieburg, Iowa, the daughter of John T. and Anna (Fousek) Kula. She was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1926 and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Katherine and Ted Jay Cook were united in marriage on June 26, 1939, in Prairieburg. They made their home in Waubeek. He died August 10, 1968.
Katherine taught in country schools for many years in the Prairieburg area and later taught in Cedar Rapids. After retirement, she worked as a caregiver and at the Linn County Home. Katherine was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. Her recent years were spent with her daughter, Mary Ann.
