On October 30, 2021, Karen Ann Stanford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away at the age of 62. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church - 120 Fifth Street NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52405; the family will be available at 3:00 p.m. for anyone wanting to pay respects prior to the service. Burial will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Ryan, Iowa. Lunch will follow at St. Patrick Hall - 510 Howard Street. Ryan, Iowa, 52330. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Karen, born February 19, 1959, in Manchester, Iowa, daughter of Pat and Mary Jo Woods, grew up in Ryan, Iowa, and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1977. She moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked for General Mills for 41 years until her retirement in February 2020. Karen made many lifelong friends while at General Mills, many of whom walked alongside her as she raised her two kids. She and Dan welcomed 5 grandchildren. Being a grandma was one of her true joys. Dan and Karen enjoyed going to concerts and taking trips to visit friends. There was never a time Karen would turn down a day spent at a beach. Karen also cherished spending time with her large extended family.
Karen will be remembered for her love of her family and friends. She took great pride in her kids and grandkids and was sure to show off her “grands” at any opportunity. She loved to bake and found immense pleasure in hosting family gatherings with her siblings and all the nieces and nephews. She loved sports and rooted for the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and pretty much any “good game” that was on TV.
Karen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 20 years, Daniel Stanford; her son, Bryan Rempt (Jenny); daughter, Sarah Dreier (Steve); five grandchildren, Samuel, Campbell, Jordyn, Jackson, and Jacob; her siblings: brother, Mike (Angi), sister, Deb (Steve Emken), brother, Kevin (Karen), and brother, Bear (Julie); many nieces and nephews including, Blaine (Molly), Cal (Kaitlin), Emily (Jordan), Allison, Sydney, Mary, Grace, Emma, Patrick (Maddie), Marin, Daniel, Evan, and Abbie; and a long list of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Patrick.
