Karen Kay Johnston, 59, of 441 4th St., died Saturday, October 9, 2004, in Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Surviving Karen is her husband, Fred of Marion; a daughter, Denise and son, Glen, both of Cedar Rapids; two half-sisters, Lynn Carico and Betsy (Ron) Reineck, of New Virginia; a half-brother, James West of Colfax; a sister-in-law, Pauline Roush of Pocohontas; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arnold Dietrich; her mother, Jeanette West; her step-father, James West; and her twin brother, Gary Roush.
Karen was born July 30, 1945, in Des Moines. She married Fred Johnston on December 11, 1965, in Omaha, Nebraska. Karen enjoyed camping, fishing and karaoke. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to people who were in need.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Karen?s memory.
