Justin “Justy” R. Watson, 72, of Delhi, formerly of Cedar Rapids died July 10, 2011, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Delhi United Methodist Church in Delhi by Rev. Lorraine Hartman. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Justy was born July 26, 1938 in Harlan, IA, the son of Marshall and Lora (Adams) Watson. Graduating from State Center in 1956, he attended Coe College, graduating in 1960. On June 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Andrews at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, IA. Justy worked as a buyer at Armstongs, a salesman at Midwest Carpet, owned and operated Healy’s Sporting Goods and a salesman at Smulekoff’s in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1999. After retirement, they moved to Lake Delhi area and Justy was employed by Pronto in Manchester.
Justy was a member of the Delhi United Methodist Church, the Army Reserves, and the Herman Masonic Lodge. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan, attending many games. Justy officiated high school and small college football and basketball games. He was conducted into the Coe College Athletic Hall of Fame. Justy enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and being with family and friends.
Justy is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Bill Watson of Strawberry Point, IA and Curt (Debbie) Watson of Minnetonka, MN; two grandchildren, Emma and Carter Watson; a brother, Winston (Nancy) Watson of Clear Lake, IA; three sisters in-law, Martha (John) Deines of Cedar Falls, Marjorie Enabnit of Marble Rock, and Melinda (Dennis) McWilliams of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.
Justy was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Lora Watson.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
