Justin G. Huber, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Justin was born May 5, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of John and Mary Huber. He married Rita N. Stewart in 1954, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from Xavier University in Cincinnati, he served for two years in the United States Army at Fort Sill Oklahoma from 1954 to 1956. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids in 1965, when Justin was recruited by Collins Radio (Rockwell-Collins). They were members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Justin retired from Rockwell in 1995 and spent his retirement years reading to kindergartners at Pierce Elementary and tutoring adults in math at the Catherine McCauley Center. He was a voracious reader and loved to golf and go for long walks.
His family includes his three daughters, Monica (Keith) Lewis, Sarah (Tim) Dyck, and Rachel (David) Rose. Justin and Rita had one son, John, who died at birth. Grandchildren include, Isaiah Lewis (Rochester, Minnesota), Justin Lewis (Kasson, Minnesota), Adam Lewis (Minneapolis), Geoffrey Dyck (Cedar Rapids), Ian Dyck (Cedar Rapids), Katheryn (Michael) Flanigan (Independence), Miranda German (Lakewood Ranch, Florida), Benjamin (Colleen) Severns (Minneapolis), Matt Rose (Cedar Rapids), and Megan Rose (Lakewood Ranch, Florida). Justin has one brother, Kenneth (Mina) Huber (Yellow Springs, Ohio), and two sisters: Miriam (Jim) Cook (Corpus Cristi, Texas) and Gretchen Uno (Texarkana, Arkansas). He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; son John; sister, Jean Andriot; and brother, David Huber.
Justin’s desire to help those in need did not end in death. He donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for medical research.
