Junior Allen Andersen, 82, of Walker, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Walker United Methodist Church, Walker, by Rev. Diane Mitchell. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lila; his children, Linda (Keith) Smith of Independence, Iowa, Nancy (Dwayne) Kula of Ryan, Iowa, Carol (Jeff) Paxhia of Battle Creek, Michigan and Dan (Janice) Andersen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Bradley Andersen, Alicia (Adam) Andersen-Beltz, Geoffrey (Lina) Smith, Ben Smith, Keith “Chip” Smith, Laura Kula, Melissa Kula and Allison Kula, Michael Paxhia, Matthew Paxhia, Eric Andersen, Lucas Andersen and Morgan Andersen; two great-grandchildren, Nadia Smith and Mira Smith; a sister, Beverly (Jim) Merritt of Urbandale; a sister-in-law, Patricia Andersen of Syracuse, New York; and two brothers-in-law, Gale (Donna) Wheeler of Norwalk, Iowa and Stanley (Marion) Wheeler of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marinus and Mary Andersen; a brother, Delmar Andersen; and a son, Allen Andersen.
Junior was born October 20, 1925, in Austinville, Iowa, the son of Marinus and Mary (King) Andersen. The Andersen family moved to Walker during Junior’s senior year of high school. Upon graduation, at 17, he joined the Navy. Junior attended officer’s training at Notre Dame and he served three years in the Navy.
On June 20, 1948, Junior married Lila Wheeler. He attended Coe College under the G.I. Bill and attained a degree in 1949 in Commerce and Finance. Junior owned and operated the Walker Creamery Company and Andersen Realty.
