June E. Vavra, 86, of 2201 D. Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following congestive heart failure. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Will Jackson of Hus Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends Friday, April 13, 2007, after 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Bob (Barb) Vavra of Marion and Mark (Pat) Vavra of St. Peters, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Vavra of Marion; six grandchildren, Alex (Candice) Vavra, Jennifer (Bruce) Borcherding, Jason (Gina) Vavra, Chad (Jennifer) Vavra, Zachry Vavra and Melissa (Josh) Henderson; three great-grandchildren, Ashton and Caleb Henderson and Byron Borcherding; and two nieces, Linda Arline and LeeAnn Stowe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; a son, John Vavra; a sister, Frances Seefluth; and a brother, Herbert, who died at childbirth.
June was born July 23, 1920, the daughter of Stanley and Bessie (Cabalka) Starman, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert Vavra. He died in March, 1980. June worked as a cafeteria monitor at Wilson High School and she also worked for her son, Bob, in The Pro Shop.
She was a member of the Hus Presbyterian Church and a member of the travel group through the bank. June enjoyed doing embroidery and baby quilts. She lived for her family and loved being with them. June especially enjoyed traveling to Florida with her family.
