Julie was born June 17, 1960, the daughter of Ronald and Donna (Fleming) Smith in Manchester. She graduated from North Linn High School.

Julie had a varied work life starting out at Buffalo Bay Grain in Coggon, followed by working at Rockwell Collins until being laid off. After graduating with her AA degree from Kirkwood Community College she worked for Larkin traveling the country as a computer programmer. This love of travel led her to become an over the road semi driver for Schneider National. Julie also attended and graduated from the Minnesota Institute of Travel. She later returned to Rockwell Collins where she was employed at the time of her death.
She enjoyed traveling, taking numerous trips whenever she got the chance. She let her creative side show with card making and stamping. She also had a love of animals, big or small. Some of her pets included fish, birds, dogs, and horses.

Julie’s greatest joy was spending time with Hunter and Noah, taking them on many adventures such as fishing, going to rock shows, seeing Santa, going to movies, and many hours of playing cards, board games, and doing crafts.
