Julia Kay Ladd, 64, a resident of Central City, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at United Church of Christ by the Rev. Jonna Jensen. Arrangements with Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City.
Surviving are her mother, Gladys Leinbach of Anamosa; her son, Don Ladd of Iowa City; and her daughter Ann Ladd of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her father and her husband, David.
Julia was born the daughter of LaVerne and Gladys Mudd Leinbach on January 12, 1939, in Galesburg, Illinois. On September 11, 1960 she was united in marriage to David M. Ladd. He died August 4, 1983. She attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where she earned a B. S. in Library Science. Julia also attended and taught at Kirkwood Community College. She owned and operated Fox Ridge Herbs in Central City for twenty years. Julia was an active member of United Church of Christ in Central City and the Central City Main Street Program.
The family requests instead of flowers, memorials may be made in Julia?s memory to Central City United Church of Christ to support the food pantry, Main Street Program or the Indian Creek Nature Society.
