Julia Francis George Jones, 88, of rural Anamosa, formerly of Edgewood and Strawberry Point, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at her home, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point by Pastor Jason Cooper. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. Burial: Edgewood Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis (Jerry) Thein of Summerfield, North Carolina, Janice (Don) Spurgin of Apache Junction, Arizona, Pattianne Hulshizer of Marion, Virginia (Ken) Linderwell of Manchester, Dale “Joe” (Virginia) Jones of Swisher, and Diane (Leslie) Maruquin of Cibolo, Texas; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty-six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Frank and Mike George; son-in-law, Robert Hulshizer, Sr.; and three grandchildren, Carmen, Darren, and Dillon.
Julia was born June 12, 1919, the daughter of Lorenzo and Bessie George in Waterloo. She attended Quasqueton rural schools. On November 4, 1937, she married Dale Walter Jones in Elkport, Iowa. He died June 18, 1987 in Strawberry Point.
Julia was a member of the Pythian Sisters, the Eagles Club, and Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Camp Courageous or Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point in Julia’s memory.
