Judith Schmitz, 75, a long time resident of Hiawatha, Iowa, died Sunday, October 19, 2008, in Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2008, at First Pentecostal Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. James McCoy. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Mausoleum.
Survivors include her children, Lauren (Scott) Occhino, Duluth, Minnesota, Jeffrey (Gayle) Schmitz , Hiawatha and John Schmitz, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Nathan (Melissa) Schmitz, Isaac (Sarah) Schmitz, Jasmine Schmitz and Michael Schmitz; foster grandson, Sang (Ahn) Vong; great grandchildren, Jenna Schmitz, Jace Schmitz, Ethan Vong and LeAhn Vong; and brother, Louis (Fran) Raymer of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur; and her companion (Canine) Boo Boo.
Judith was born April 22, 1933, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Alberta (Rose) Raymer. She graduated from Duluth Area Institute of Technology as an LPN on August 11, 1967. After moving to Cedar Rapids she went on to graduate from St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital School of Nursing on May 21, 1982, with an RN degree. Judith retired from St. Luke’s Hospital in 1998 after 16 years.
Judith was a member of First Pentecostal Church.
