Joyce Marie Wright, 83, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Thomas Grove Assisted Living and Memory Care in Marion. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Old St. Joseph Church, located at 995 5th Avenue in Marion, where a one-hour visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joyce was born on June 12, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Beuna (Shoneman) Zeman. She was a graduate of Alburnett High School. She was united in marriage to Gary Grimm on July 2, 1960, at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church. They later divorced. In 1989, Joyce was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Wright in Cedar Rapids. She drove a school bus for Alburnett Schools for numerous years. Later, she was a medical assistant and worked for Internists, PC for many years. Joyce loved antiquing and was a garage-sale enthusiast. She was also an avid painter. Joyce was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Knights of Columbus and Olivet Missions. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Justy Griffin of Cedar Rapids, Tracy (Rod) Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, and John (Michelle) Grimm of Manchester, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Marissa, Micaela, and Mariah Griffin, Brandon (Shelby) Hansen, Chelsie and Reva Hansen, Toby and Trevor Grimm, and Matthew O’Brien; four great-grandchildren, Karson, Weston, Hudson, and Ramona Hansen, and one more on the way; one sister, Jeanette Hamilton of Robins, Iowa; and three step-children, Robert, Tina, and Mike and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Salvation Army.
