Joyce Marie O’Toole, 81, resident of Heritage Health in Elgin Illinois, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep, October 28, 2016, at 4:20 a.m. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Milton Welbes; mother, Clara Welbes; daughter, Kim Walton; and grandson, Daniel Gombert.
Memorial Wake Service: 4:00–8:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, Murdoch Funeral Home, 3855 Katz Drive, Marion, IA 52302. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. with Father Steve Garner.
Mass Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 2310 1st Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Joyce was a Meat Cutter for the Dubuque Pack for 29 years and a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union. She was born Oct 29, 1934, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of late Milton and Clara Welbes.
Joyce was united in marriage with Pierre Gombert June 7, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dubuque, Iowa. They later divorced. She was united in marriage with Martin O’Toole, April 2, 1966. They later divorced in April 1975.
Joyce moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, April 15, 1983, where she worked a diversity of different jobs in the Cedar Rapids area. Joyce was an active member and Friend of Bill W since Nov 24, 1984. She was a parishioner of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce Gombert of Marion, Iowa; (former daughter-in-law), Darlene Fleckenstein-Cleary of Delhi, Iowa, and Pat (Lisa) O’Toole of South Elgin, Illinois; four brothers, Gerald (Margaret) Welbes of Dubuque, Iowa, John (Kathy) Welbes of Omaha, Nebraska, David (Teresa) Welbes of Platteville, Wisconsin, Roger Welbes of Dubuque, Iowa; three sisters, Sharon Acola (Jerry) of East Dubuque, Illinois, Ruth Chevalier, and Marion Welbes; along with nine grandkids; and 12 great-grandkids.
Joyce loved her children and her grandchildren deeply. Her family meant the world to her.
Joyce was grateful for all the adventures and friends along life’s journey.
