Joyce Ann Martinek, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on March 7, 2023, in her home. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 4949 Council Street NE, Cedar Rapids, with a Funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Joyce was born on June 8, 1942, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of John Albert and Elizabeth (Pender) McVay. She is a graduate of Buck Creek High School and went on to become a Nurse’s Aide. On November 7, 1964, Joyce was united in marriage to James O. Martinek in Hopkinton. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for many years, and Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Joyce was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing crafts and clothes, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her three sons, John (Kelly) Martinek of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Timothy (Roxann) Martinek of Marion, and Jason (Sandra) Martinek of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Joey (Amy), Calla, and Nathaniel Martinek; one great-grandchild, Evie; two sisters, Janet (Barry) Smith of Cedar Rapids, and Barb (Bill) Burns of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Teresa Martinek.
