Joyce Ann Bohren

Joyce Ann Bohren, 62, of Prairieburg, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the St. Luke’s Hospice Unit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa, with a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg, with burial following at the church cemetery. Her family asks that you wear your favorite Hawkeye attire in memory of Joyce.
Joyce was born on August 11, 1961, the daughter of Robert Charles and Margaret Lorraine (Gilbert) Bakken. On September 23, 1978, Joyce was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Bohren in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the Abbe Center, the City of Marion and Cedar Rapids Park Departments, and most recently, at Jones Regional Medical Center, where she brought her great cooking abilities to them and everyone else. Joyce was an EMTA for the Prairieburg Fire Department and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed garage sales, flea markets, reading, and watching wildlife. She had an extensive collection of Emmett Kelly figurines. Spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, was her greatest joy. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years, Jerry; daughter, Jackie (Tommy) Ayers of Central City; two grandchildren, TJ and Maycie Ayers; nieces, Lisa (Chris) Seaton, Susan (Lance) Bistline, and Aimee (Shannon) Langreck; many cousins; and 8 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy (Tom) Loughren and Pat (Harold) Frasher; her beloved dogs, Cindy, Shelby, and Josey, and Mickey the cockatiel.
The family would like to thank everyone at Marion Milestones and all the healthcare workers that have aided in Joyce’s care over the years.
