Joy Staples Nolte, 86, of Marion, passed away Monday, June 28, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with her family by her side, following a stroke at home. As Joy wished, her body will be cremated. Services are scheduled for a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Joy was born January 2, 1924, to Alvah E. (Bud) and Della (Thomas) Staples at home on a farm near Mt. Etna, Iowa. Joy lived her early life in Corning, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Corning, then taught country school for 10 years. Joy married Richard Nolte on August 18, 1954, at the Methodist Rectory in Corning, Iowa. After a year, they moved to Chicago so that Richard could attend school. In 1959, they moved to Marion, where Joy was a homemaker and a stay-at-home-mom, living in the same house for 51 years and raising a son.
Joy is survived by husband, Richard; son David Alan; daughter-in-law, Jeannie; four grandchildren, Kathryn (Martin) Janss, Kimberly, David L. (Cassie), and Derek; great-grandson Spencer Janss; and a special nephew, Richard Staples. Also surviving is her brother Tom Staples, brother-in-law Robert (Carol) Nolte of Corning; sister-in-law Betty (Ed) of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Joy had many life long friends.
