Jounier Beitz, 86, formerly of Delhi, Iowa, died Saturday morning, February 7, 2004, at the Monticello Nursing & Rehab Center, Monticello, Iowa, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the Delhi United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Jounier was born on March 14, 1917 in Milo Township, the son of Samuel and Alice M. (Main) Beitz. He attended country school near his home then helped on the family farm. On July 1, 1936, Jounier was united in marriage to Veryle E. Evans at her parent?s home in Delhi. The couple farmed in the Delhi area. In 1968, they sold the farm and moved to town. Jounier worked for Skogman Construction in Cedar Rapids and then for the City of Delhi. Veryle passed away on September 21, 2000.
Jounier was a friend of the Delhi United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the Delhi Volunteer Fire Department. He dug graves for the Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi. Playing cards and coon hunting were favorite pastimes of Jounier?s.
Jounier is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veryle Beitz; three sisters, Lulu Sutton, Blanche Milroy, & Alta Fierstine; and two brothers, Archie Beitz & Ronald Beitz.
