Josephine E. Tisl

Josephine E. Tisl, 94, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Center Point, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by the Rev. Gabriel Anderson. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, where a Rosary service will begin at 4 p.m. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, David (Rosie) Tisl of Stuart, Iowa, Ron (Donna) Tisl, Gary (Connie) Tisl, all of Center Point, Iowa, Karen (Jerry) Dircks of Hortonville, Wisconsin and Joanne (Gary) Kudrna of Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Bob Tisl, Mary Carl, Mark Tisl, Teresa Tisl, Michael Tisl, Danae Tisl, Matt Dircks, Lisa Schoultz, Paul Tisl, Kristi Tisl and Jenn Kudrna; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a brother, Charles Sonka of Solon, Iowa; and three sisters, Sister Consolata Sonka of Omaha, Nebraska, Rose Rezac of Staten Island, New York, and Therese Ballard of Portland, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents; and a brother, Frank Sonka.
Josephine was born May 10, 1908, the daughter of Frank and Julia Medek Sonka, in Pierz, Minnesota. On July 8, 1930, she was united in marriage to Leo Tisl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died October 2, 1964. A longtime resident of Center Point, Josephine was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Walker, Alert Homemaker?s Club, Farm Bureau Women?s Organization and the Apple Creek Card Club. She enjoyed gardening, baking kolaches and feeding her family and friends.
