Joseph P. Wolfe, 88, of 1107 17th St., died Friday, August 26, 2005, at his home. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion by Father John Gossman. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa with military honors.

Survivors include his children, James and Claudia Wolfe of Cedar Rapids, Thomas and Sheila Wolfe of Albertville, Alabama, Martha and Rudy Kraus of Fayette, Merideth Monserud of Elgin, Illinois and Kathleen and David Collins of Old Lyme, Connecticut; a sister, Mary Faur of Clinton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; an infant son; his parents; seven brothers; and a sister.

Joe was born December 25, 1916, the son of Peter and Ida Pearl (Ireland) Wolfe, Jr. in Anamosa. On January 22, 1942, he married Charlene Brainard in Anamosa. She died September 1, 1983. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII. Joseph worked at The Cedar Rapids Gazette for thirty-two years, retiring in 1982. Joe received recognition for his numerous volunteer activities in retirement. He was given the KCRG "Nine Who Care" award in 1990 and the State of Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award.

Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and VFW Post No. 788.

Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.

Memorials may be made to the Charlene Wolfe Scholarship Fund at Mt. Mercy College.
