Joseph F. Perez, 71, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died January 31, 2003, in Madelia, Minnesota, from injuries sustained in a trucking accident. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm Monday, February 3, 2003, at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD, where the family will be present to greet friends afterwards. Graveside Committal Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Brown Cemetery in Colesburg, Iowa. Local arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Emma Jane Perez of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his sons, Arnold Perez of Portland, Oregon, Joseph Perez of Salem, South Dakota, and David Moore and his wife, Cheryl, of Jesup; his daughters, Linda Johnson and her husband, Rich, of North Pole, Alaska, Carol Ann Perez of Sandy, Utah, Debi Smith and her husband, Mike, of Springville, and Sharon Ransford and her husband, Don, of Robins; his brothers, Albert Perez, "Duke" Perez, Raymond Perez, Harold Perez, and Ronny Perez, all of Rhode Island; and his sister, Tina Casey, of Rhode Island. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren

Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane L. Novak; a grandson, Michael Merkling; a brother, Rick Perez; and a sister, BoBo Burgess.

Joseph F. Perez was born on August 24, 1931, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Joseph and Viola (Haskins) Perez. At age 17, he entered the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, Joe lived in California, Utah and Oregon. He moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1974, where he began his career with Midwest Coast Trucking. Joe married Emma Jane Grimes on March 30, 1982, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Joe enjoyed riding his motorcycle and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. In his free time, he liked playing games, cards, and taking his grandchildren to Falls Park. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people and always made a point of stopping to say hello to people he would see along the way. Joe was always willing to lend a hand to people less fortunate or in need of help. His friendly and outgoing spirit will be long remembered by all that knew him.
