Joseph J. "Jay? Korf, 83, of 2965 14th Ave., Marion, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness.

Services: 10:00 am Saturday, October 15, 2005, St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Marion by Rev. José Comparán. A luncheon will be served in the church basement immediately following services. Inurnment: 3:00 pm Saturday, Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney, Iowa by Rev. Phillip Ryan. There will be no visitation.

Jay is survived by three children, Diane (Mark) Stephenson of Cedar Rapids, T.J. (Vicki) Korf of Palo and Linda (Bill) Spence of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Kurt (Cher), Megan, and Eric (Michelle) Stephenson, Jared and Briana Korf, Brett Price and Angie (Drew) Palmer; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Gracie, Carter and Collin; and a sister, Margaret Brockman of Odebolt.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude in 2000; and a sister, Mildred O?Brien.

Jay was born May 5, 1922 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Albert B. and Alta (Harper) Korf. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1940. Jay served in the Army Air Force during World War II as Staff Sergeant of the 783rd Bomb Squadron, 465th Bomb Group. He flew 40 combat missions, was shot down over Germany and was a prisoner of war. On September 4, 1945 Jay was united in marriage to Gertrude Dumont in Harper, Iowa. Jay worked for many years as a meat cutter for Hy-Vee, from where he retired.

Jay was a member of the St Joseph?s Cathoic Church and the Marion American Legion #298. His interests included fishing, watching the Cubs and Hawkeyes and going to the Legion. Jay was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a joy to be around and touched many lives. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to St. Luke?s Hospice, especially our friend Julie, Andrea and Bev; and a very special thank you to his friend and caregiver, Dee.
