Joseph A. Klein, 91, of Manchester died March 25, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. Joseph Schneider. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Manchester, with a 3:00 p.m., Scripture Service. Additional visitation, one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester, IA.
Joe was born March 14, 1923 in Raeville, NE, the son of Frank and Mary (Krogman) Klein.
On November 28, 1944, Joe was united in marriage to Viola Moorman at the St. Mary Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Dundee for 42 years before moving to Manchester in 1989. They were married for 66 years, prior to Viola’s death in March 2010. Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Parish for over 70 years.
Joe enjoyed farming all of his life. He enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Joe enjoyed sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeye’s, and the Cubs. He loved visiting with neighbors, and friends, going to the Senior Center and Hardee’s for coffee and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Joe is survived by five children; Dennis (JoAnn) Klein of Hiawatha, Diann (Thomas) Hayes of Lamont, Stephen (Debbie) Klein of West Branch, Sue (Dan) Lynch of Farley, and Jon (Mick) Klein of Dundee; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Klein.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; his parents, Frank and Mary Klein; one grandson, Derek Bauer; his sisters, Helen, Hilda, Millie and Vera; and brothers, Richard, Cletus, and Francis.
