Joseph Michael Cira, 91, a lifelong resident of Marion, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa by Father John Gossman. Friends may call from 4 ?" 7 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, with a vigil service to take place at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Alice (Fensterman) Cira; five children, Mike (Laura) Cira of Marion; Janet (Earl) Crutchley of Imperial, Missouri; Joe (Diana) Cira of Cedar Rapids; Joanne (Steven) Carfrae of Cedar Rapids; and Louis (Kathy) Cira of Mason City, Iowa.

Other survivors include sisters, Anna Pusateri of Cedar Rapids and Leah Cira of Marion; a brother, Michael Cira of Pueblo, Colorado; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, James Crutchley; and two sisters, Nettie and Grace.

Joe was born September 17, 1916, the son of Mike and Lena (Gallo) Cira, in Marion, Iowa. He married Alice Fensterman on June 30, 1937. Joe and his father, Mike, operated the Cira Grocery Store in Marion for many years. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 20 years of service.
