Jonny was born January, 20, 1946, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of James and Edna (Kennedy) Wirth. He married Rejina “Jeannie” Tharp on September 25, 1965, in Cedar Rapids. She passed away on August 7, 2018. Jonny was a hardworking man. He retired after 43 years as a maintenance man at Cargill. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and camping. Jonny loved going gambling with his wife, Jeannie. He always made sure his family was taken care of. Jonny had a huge heart and was a “hero” to so many who knew him. He taught his family to always work hard for what you want, respect each other, love one another, be confident, and above all else, family comes first. The way his family is today is because of him.
Jonny is survived by his three children, Jonny (Dotie) Wirth Jr., Scott Wirth (Lisa Hohmann), Angel (David) McKay; grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, Matt, Kacey, Nikki, Jessica, Daniel, Colton, Savannah, Alexis and Jaxon; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Merrill (Judy) Wirth; sister, Patty (Tim) Kniffen; and his beloved dog, Teddy Bear.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jeannie; parents, James and Edna Wirth; three sisters, Gloria Hoover, Kathy Akers, Mary Page; and three brothers, Jerry Wirth, Kenneth Wirth, and Daniel Wirth.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for the care their staff gave to both Jeannie and Jonny, especially their nurse, Chari.
